ACDR is looking for a Treasurer to Join Our Board

If you are someone who is passionate about animal welfare, has a background in not-for-profit finances, and would enjoy working with a group of people who are dedicated to helping dogs, then consider joining Atlantic Canadian Dachshund Rescue’s (ACDR) board executive as our Treasurer. An all-volunteer charitable organization that focuses on rescuing and rehoming dachshunds and dachshund mixes in the four Atlantic provinces, ACDR has rescued and rehomed hundreds of dogs over our 20 years of service.
The Treasurer has oversight for budget planning, financial reporting, record-keeping, and managing incoming and outgoing funds. Knowledge of Canada Revenue requirements for charitable organizations would be considered a definite asset. This position is for a two year term and entails approximately 5 – 10 hours a month, depending on the time of year and rescue activities.

Specific responsibilities include:
• Serving as a member of the Board Executive and Board of Directors
• Attending bi-monthly board meetings and other meetings as needed
• Overseeing and providing guidance on the finances of the rescue
• Preparing reports detailing the rescue’s present financials for each board meeting
• Presenting duly audited statements at each annual General Meeting
• Ensuring development and board review of financial policies and procedures.
• Acting as signing officer, with another officer, for cheques and other documents
• Handling all incoming and outgoing banking transactions on behalf of the rescue
• Prepare monthly and yearly budgets while continually monitoring expenditures

Ideally, you have:
• Demonstrated experience (2-4 years) as a treasurer or financial administrator in the not-for-profit / charitable sector or other relevant financial management experience
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
• Detail oriented, numerical accuracy with good follow-up skills
• Working knowledge of CRA requirements pertaining to charitable organizations
• Experience in both short and long range budgeting / planning
• Solid analytical skills, strategic thinking and decision-making ability
• Experience with auditing procedures and principles
• Previous volunteer Board experience an asset
