Adoption Process

Step 2

Application is reviewed

Our Applications Coordinator will review your application and makes a short list of all applicants who would be best suited to the dachshund that is available.

Selection is made

The Directors then review the short list and decide on which family best meets the dachshunds requirements.

Step 4

Home visit conducted

If selected, a volunteer will visit your home to complete a home visit. We will try to bring the available dachshund with us when we do the home visit, but this is not always possible due to their location.

Step 4

Step 5

Three week trial

If all goes well with your home visit and you would like to proceed with the next step in the adoption process, a time will be set for you to begin your three week trial period. During the three week trial, at any given time you feel it is not working out, you would return the dachshund to ACDR. If all goes well, when the three week trial is up, you can formally adopt them.

Adoption Completion

Once the adoption is complete, ACDR will transfer all medical information over to your vet.
