Our Mission
Our mission is to help homeless dachshund and dachshund mixes across all the Atlantic provinces find new homes. Our goal is to educate the public about the breed and responsible pet ownership so we can reduce the number of animals that end up in shelters and rescues.

25 Years of Happy Tails
We've been rescuing dachshunds since 2001. For twenty-five years, our trusted and wonderful foster families have welcomed dogs of every age and need into their homes, vetting them, loving them, and helping them heal. When each dog is ready for their fur-ever home, we place them in the lap of luxury with an approved adoptive family, for the rest of their lives.

Run Entirely by Volunteers
ACDR has no paid staff and no shelter building. We are a network of foster homes, coordinators, and volunteers spread across Atlantic Canada, all giving their time because they love this breed. That's also why we can promise that 100% of your donated money goes back to the dogs. Every penny makes a difference.
What Makes Us Different
Three things shape every match we make.
Foster-home raised.
Every dog lives in a real home, not a kennel, so we truly know their personality before they're adopted.
Best fit, not closest fit.
We match dogs to families based on the dog's needs, not on geography. The right home is worth the wait.
Here without judgment.
Whether you're adopting, fostering, or surrendering, you'll always be met with compassion.
Champions for the Breed
Dachshunds are spirited, devoted little dogs with unique needs and personalities. From understanding back health and IVDD awareness to appreciating their independent and loyal nature, responsible dachshund ownership begins with knowledge and preparation.
Part of our mission is to educate and support the public by sharing information about the breed, helping families better understand their dachshunds and providing them with the tools they need to build happy, healthy lives together.
Our Board of Directors
ACDR is guided by a dedicated Board of Directors, elected and appointed by our membership to lead the organization with care, commitment and purpose. They generously give their time, experience and passion to ensure that every decision is made with the best interests of the dogs at heart.
