Foster & Volunteer
Open your heart and home. Members help with fundraising, events like Wienerpawlooza and the Wiener Walks, transporting dogs, reference calls, home visits, and fostering. There's a role for everyone.
Become a Foster
Foster parents open your heart and home to welcome a dachshund in need and to help socialize, train, and in some cases help rehabilitate post-surgery. When possible, we would love it if you could bring your foster to our events, should one be in your area.
To become a foster parent, the following are required:
- Two personal references
- One vet reference
- A home visit
- A Criminal Records Check (CRC)
Become a Volunteer
Volunteers help our directors plan, set up, and launch special events like Wienerpawlooza, transport dogs from a surrender home to a foster home, complete phone reference checks, or carry out a home visit for a potential adopting family, and so much more.
To become a volunteer, the following are required:
- Two personal references
- A Criminal Records Check (CRC)
We love welcoming younger animal-lovers, too. Email us to learn how junior volunteers can lend a hand.

Need to Surrender Your Dachshund?
We understand things happen in our lives beyond our control and sometimes the kindest thing we can do for our pets is to surrender them to a trusted rescue. Should you find yourself in need of surrendering your dachshund, the Atlantic Canadian Dachshund Rescue is here for you, without judgment.
With 25 years in existence and many more years of experience with our trusted and wonderful foster families, we will have your dachshund vetted and loved while in care with ACDR. Then, when they are ready for their fur-ever home, they will be placed in the lap of luxury with an approved adoptive family, for the rest of their lives.
To discuss your options or learn more about the process, please email our Director of Intake and Foster Care. Put "ACDR Surrender" in the subject line and tell us a little about your dachshund. We'll take it from there, gently and at your pace.
